We’ve heard it time and time again, Instagram Reels aren’t going anywhere. Nothing is changing in 2023.


If you’re wanting to reach more people, reels are the perfect place to begin and continue to grow.


What is a Reel?


Reels are short form videos used on Instagram that can be up to 90 seconds long.


When creating a reel you can upload, film, and edit videos ALL in the Instagram app.


Since their inception, we have seen reels reach more accounts than any other type of post. Why? One of the main reasons is they have their own tab on Instagram. AND Instagram will show your reels to people who are not following your account in the Reels Tab.


Instagram Reels Algorithm


Instagram’s main goal is to keep you on their platform for as long as possible, so they will show you reels based off of your past preferences and what they think you are most likely to interact with.


If you are continuously interacting with a certain type of content or a certain account’s content, then you are more likely to see this in your feed.


Instagram has said they will not prioritize sharing content blatantly from other apps, mainly TikTok. They also shared the higher the resolution the more likely they are to push it to a larger audience.


In short, remove the TikTok watermark and make sure you are posting high quality videos.


Features to Use on Instagram Reels


The Reels features are similar to Stories on Instagram, so you may recognize a lot of them:


Filters: Didn’t want to put on makeup? No worries, just swipe left!


Captions: So this is DEFINITELY one of the most important features. If you’re talking in your reel, PLEASE use captions. Most people watch reels with no sound on.


Text: You can add SEO keywords with text on the screen, so Instagram is more likely to push your Reel to your target audience.


Audio: You can add audio from Instagram’s library of never ending audios or you can add a voiceover, and even record it in the Instagram app.


Quick Tips for Instagram Reels for Businesses


1. ALWAYS Use Captions


Like we said before, people don't turn on sound when watching Reels, so adding captions is an absolute must!


Make sure they are visible and easy to read for people.


2. Use Trending Audio


Yes, trending audio is okay to use as part of your strategy. Typically, they will help you reach more people within your audience.


Make sure you relate the trending audio to your niche to reach the right people.


When you’re scrolling through Instagram, find trending audios you love, and save them for later.


3. Post Consistently & Don’t Give Up


Even if your first few reels don’t get a ton of attention, don’t stop there! Keep going, and your audience will continue to grow.


Sure, it’s discouraging when you spend an hour creating the “perfect” reel and it flops, but keep going! Also, sometimes reels take a week or even two to reach their full potential.
